This FAQ guide was created to assist everyone that is new to the world of NFusion. It is a constant 'work in progress' and will updated periodically as seen fit by the loyal members of F2ATV.com

This is considered a guide due to the nature of how it will not only answer your Frequently Asked Questions, but it will also 'guide' you to the area of the forum that your question has already been answered/discussed by a fellow member.

It has been divided into several groups:

Q. What is the main support site for NFusion ?

A. F2ATV.COM

Q. Where is the BEST place to buy an NFusion? Why?

A. Your best bet is to purchase your NFusion from an F2ATV Site Sponsor. You can access their websites from the banners located at the top of every page of the forums. Why, you ask? Since the site sponsors have a long time relationship with F2ATV, there is also a relationship with the administrators of the site. In other words.... if you have a problem, one of your fellow members (Blind Scan) can 'make things happen' to make it right !!!

Q. How long has NFusion been around?

A. The Nova NFusion box has been in the FTA scene since mid-2006.

Q. Who are the coders for Nfusion?

A. It's coders are Matchstick and Matchbox (the Pyro Twins). They have provided end-users with ability to watch TV ( IKS ) while other STB's are down. The IKS downtime has been remarkable since its introduction of only a few hours downtime on each provider( including Jan 6th Dish ECM's ) The unit itself is smart enough when connected via network to automatically check for new updates so end-users will always have the newest version running.

Q. How is it different than any other FTA box out there?

A. It is different from any other FTA box due to it's ability to obtain channels without a stand alone bin (see IKS section).

Q. Is there an HD Model from NFusion.

A. No. Not at this time. There has been discussion of possibly having an HD unit in the future, but no firm date of it's release.

A. No. Not at this time.

This area will be an attempt to educate those that are unfamiliar with basic computer networking.

- How to enable mac filter on a D-Link and find your nfusion mac address
1. Go to your router
2. Login and click advanced
3. Click network filter on the left (1st write down all mac addresses that are listed so we c an put them back in should we need to)
4. Chose turn off mac filtering
5. Save Changes
6. Log out of the router
7. Turn on nfustion
8. Go back to your router and log in again
9. Click on setup
10. Click on network settings
11. At the bottom of this page you will see a list of all attached devices including the nfusion
12. Write down the mac address of the nfusion (you will most likely have it will be the one that is not on the list you wrote down in step 3)
13. Click on advanced
14. Click on network filter
15. Chose Turn mac filtering and ALLOW......
16. input all the mac addresses you worte down INCLUDING the nfusion
17. Save Change

Q. How do I set a static IP on my nFusion?

A. Once you have your router hooked up and running you need to find your IP range that your local network is on. To do this, follow these steps.

1. On your computer, go to Start, then Run, in the run box, type 'cmd'

2. Once the command prompt window opens, type 'ipconfig'

3. You will now see your network adapters listed, and under them you will see some numbers that look something like 192.168.xxx.xxx. The first number is the local IP address of your computer, the second one is your subnet mask, the third one is your gateway.

4. In the NFusion internet settings,(Internet > Network Information) you need to change the DHCP/Static setting to Static.

5. The gateway and subnet parts should be the same as what was shown on your computer, but the IP address will be something within that IP range. For example, if the IP address on your computer is 192.168.1.2, then the first 3 sets of numbers would remain the same, only the last three numbers need to be changed. Since your gateway would be 192.168.1.1 then you would need a number higher than 2, which is the number on your computer, but it can't be any higher than 255.

6. Set it to the next number higher than your PC, if that's the only other device you hook to your router. If you hook multiple devices then set it 10 or even 20 numbers higher.

7. The NFusion network settings are confusing to some, because it shows all three numbers in each set, so your IP address on the NFusion would look something like 192.168.001.003.

8. If setting the PVR address, set it to the same IP as your computer that you are recording to, which in this case would be 192.168.1.2, or 192.168.001.002 in the NFusion internet settings.

Q. Why am I missing some channels?

A. This is a known problem and will be addressed by the coders. See this thread or this thread for more information.

Q. Do I need an internet connection to use this STB?

A. Yes and No. Currently (at the time of this post) an internet connection is required to receive certain channels on the Nfusion due to the latest ECM. When a 'stand-alone' bin has been release, you will not have to utilize the IKS (internet key sharing) option.

Q. What's up with that RED LIGHT?

A. It serves several purposes. See this post for the details.

Q. What do I need to make my nfusion wireless?

A. You have several choices:
-Logitech Playlink Wireless Cubes - $40
-Netgear Powerline Adapter (XE102) - $50
-D-Link Wireless Gaming Adapter (DWL-G820 or DGL-3420) - $70 to $100
-Linksys Wireless Gaming Adapter (WGA54G) - $75

Q. Can I reset my channel list?

A. No, you can only delete one by one or do a factory reset.

Q. Can I use my Coolsat RS-232 cable with my nfusion?

A. No, please use the RS-232 cable that came with your NFusion, they are different types.

Q. My laptop doesn't have serial port, only usb.

A. You can get a USB to Serial RS-232 Adapter for $12

Q. Does nfusion get Globecast? What is globecast?

A. Yes globecast is (currently) on IKS only. Globecast is another satellite provider Galaxy 25 at 97 degrees, mostly used for International Channels.

Q. How do I switch from military time (24hr) to regular time (12hr)?

A. You can't... yet. Take a look at Matchsticks response.

Q. Can I use a wireless mobile broadband card to connect my NFusion to the internet?

A. YES. Look HERE.

Q: How do you set up Nfusion to work with a Motorized system?

A:
First you have to select settings in System Settings:
- Tp & Ch Auto Updater On
- Language Setting your choice
- Time Setting click Ok the select your zone and turn summer Off

- Click Menu and go to User Settings:
- Local Area Select your area, needs to be selected to work, one close to you if your in Canada, in Manitoba we choose Fargo ND
- Channell Guide By time
- EPG Update Manual
- Dolby Digital Off as when on sometimes you will get no volume or sound
- Dish Network Autoroll On
- Bev Network Autoroll On
- Emulator On

- Click Menu:
- Select Installation Ok and then Antenna Settings and Ok
- Satellite Your choice ie: 119 w Echostar 7
- LNB type 1. Standard this will be selected for you automatically
- Lo Freq 11250 this will again be selected for you
- 22HZ Off will be selected for you
- Diseqc Mode You select your Port #
- Multi Dish Switch Disable unless you are using this type of setup
- Motor Settings Diseqc 1.2 click ok
- Scroll down to Move West - East and you will move your dish until the Quality and Signal lines at the bottom turn GREEN and go to the highest number possible
- Scroll down to Store Position and click OK

- Click Menu twice and a CONFIRMATION window will pop up, YOU MUST SELECT YES AND CLICK OK TO SAVE THIS INFORMATION
- Now you can go to channell scan and download the channells.
- Once you have all the satellites selected and Confirmed with the channell list downloaded you will select Guide on the remote and then click the GREEN Audio button, now select the satellite you want to watch and then select a channel. The motor will move to the chosen position and you can pick your program. If you see double listings just click the guide button and then the green audio button and reselect your satellite.
- You do not need to enter USALS at all to make this feature work.

IKS stands for Internet Key Sharing, but it's a contradictory of it's own term, since it does not share ANY key information.

Q. How does it work?

A. The NFusion stb is connected to the internet via the same router that your PC is contected to. IKS is the term that is being used to describe the way the NFusion 'acquires' data from the internet to maintain it's 'always up' status. The actual data it acquires and where it get's that data are trade secrets that only Matchstick and Matchbox (the Pyro Twins) know.

Q. How much data does the Nfusion IKS download from the internet? Will i go over my bandwidth limit?

A. The Nfusion IKS uses 60 bytes every 20 seconds to function.

1024 bytes = 1KB (kilobyte)
1024 KB = 1MB (megabyte)

so at this rate the IKS uses 10.5kb per hour or 253 kb over a 24hr span,

if you left your tv on 24/7 for 30 days it would use 7593 kb or 7.4 MB over that entire span of 720 hrs that your TV and IKS was on.

I highly doubt that anyone leaves there TV on that long or will they go over any bandwidth limit set by your ISP, (internet service provider)

Q. Why will IKS not work with my ISP?

A. Some ISP's (Internet Service Provider) will block certain ports that are needed by the NFusion to communicate with the IKS server.
***NOTE*** Clearwire is a know ISP that is blocking ports needed to get the IKS to function properly. It is recommended that you do not use Clearwire if you are planning on utilizing the IKS feature of this STB.

PVR

The PVR (as of Jan.5,2008) is still in a beta stage. Some people have reported limited success in it's functionality, while others have reported no success. The coders are aware of the problem and are working on it.

Q. How large is the Hard Drive in the NFusion PVR?

A. There is NO Hard Drive in the NFusion. It records video via a network (wired or wireless) connection to your PC's hard drive.

Q. Can I pause live TV with the NFusion?

A. Not at this time. The PVR capability is currently limited to recording only.

Q. How can I replay my recording on my TV?

A. You cannot replay recordings to your TV at this time. They can only be viewed on your PC.

Q. Is there a USB port? Can I record to an external hard drive?

A. No. You cannot record to an external drive. All recording capabilities are done so through the network connection (RJ45) that is connected to your router/hub.
